ECCC Lady Warriors fall In first-round NJCAA tourney action

No. 13 seed East Central Community College raced out to a early 17-point lead but the Lady Warriors were simply no match for fourth-seeded Southeastern Illinois Community College which rallied in a big way for a 74-48 blowout today in first-round action of the 2008 NJCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship in Salina, Kansas.
The Lady Warriors, who fell to 22-7 under third-year head coach Bill Smith, will now face Shelton State Community College of Tuscaloosa, Ala., in an elimination game at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Bicentennial Center. Shelton State (28-5), the No. 12 seed, fell 64-61 to No. 5 seed Barton County Community College of Great Bend, Kan., on Tuesday night.
Tanesha Brown of Jackson Provine had 19 points – including five three-pointers - to lead ECCC scorers against Southeastern, which is located in Harrisburg, Illinois. Also scoring were Rashina Jenkins, a product of Bossier City, La., 14; Mystee Dale of Choctaw Central, 12; and Tawayatha Evans of Newton, three.
Christina Rozier led Lady Falcon scorers with 14 points.
EC held a 36-33 advantage at halftime.
