There was a building boom in 1904 because of the rapid growth of Newton. This week a list of construction owners names and costs are given as follows:

The $60,100 total readable on the Newton Record microfilm gives a picture of the total cost. Some of the figures were not so plain and I have attempted to preserve them here as much as possible. If you try to add it up, it may not be the same total.

Perhaps the period immediately following the Civil War when the first progress was made. Some capital to Newton one merchant was Marine Walkins who had capital. Around 1871 we find Newton progressing. The dispute over the lands of Newton had been in Litigation for a long time.
