Landon Burt is Newton County Academy’s STAR Student.
He lives in Newton and his honors and activities include: Salutatorium, Headmaster’s List, Best Defensive Player in Basketball, 4A All District Basketball, Most Valuable Player Basketball, MPSA Allstar, Pitching award baseball, Academic Athletic Award, All District Baseball, Who’s Who, National Honor Society, FCA, Class Treasurer (10th Grade), and participates in his church youth group.
Burt made a 27 on his ACT and plans to attend East Central Community College and Mississippi State University. His plans are to major in Optometry.
Burt chose Mrs. Glenda Massey as the STAR Teacher because she is a good caring person, he said.
“Mrs. Massey has taught me since eighth grade and she is really good at what she does,” Burt said. “She is really dedicated and takes time to help each student individually, that is what makes her a STAR Teacher.”
She is the math teacher at Newton County Academy. She has taught at Newton Academy for 11 years. Massey lives in Union and is married to Don Massey and they have three sons. She has taught school for a total of 36 years. She has been named STAR teacher three times.
