The Pink Ladies of Newton Regional Hospital were honored with a reception for their hard work and many years of service on Friday, April 25. Bob Welborn, Hospital Administrator welcomed everyone.
“I appreciate everyone coming out to honor these ladies,” Welborn said. “They mean a lot to me personally because it was Pink Ladies just like these ladies who were a comfort to my family when my mom and dad were in the hospital.”
Newton County Funeral Home Director Larry Willis presented the Pink Ladies a contribution of $500 for their project (carts). Benches were also given for the patio made by Newton Chamber of Commerce members.
“I want to thank everyone that has volunteered over the years, we have been able to do many things,” Pink Ladies President Ruth Round said.
“Because of so many contributions we can place benches on the patio, one in memory of one of our own pink lady Anna Belle Turner who loved giving flowers to the patients with a cheerful smile and whose hobby was her rose garden.”
Pink Ladies are Iona Leslie (8 years), Ruth Walker (14 years), Lavonne Hardee (17 years), Clara Schwaeble (3 years), Ruth Round (24 years), Ruby Boutwell (7 1/2 years), Vivian Robinson (19 years), Frankie Evans (11 years), Juanita Hall (11 years), Elouise Garvin (19 1/2 years), Nell Godwin (21 years), Ruby Ledlow (10 years) and Erlene Bingham (15 years).
