Decatur Youth Organization held their annual fundraiser in Decatur Saturday to raise money for the East Central Ball League which includes Newton, Union and Decatur ball teams. The fundraiser was held at the Decatur ball field on Chapel Hill Road.
“The fundraiser netted nearly $3,500 on that day,” Coordinator Ricky Walker said. “You consider it a success when you make that much money in one day.
Walker said this is also a day where the guys can let their hair down and have a good time. We invite teams from outside our league from Philadelphia and Lake so the boys can play with the other teams. This brings in a different atmosphere when you play teams you don’t normally play.
“This is one of the two fundraisers we have each year,” Walker said. “One is our coke sale and this is the other one. We have these fundraisers to keep our heads above water.”
To raise the money there was a concession stand, hamburgers for sale, face painting, $3 to park your car if you liked and a dunking booth.
