Record number attends ECCC orientation

special to The Star

DECATUR – A record number of students attended orientation activities held June 5 at East Central Community College, announced Joe Killens, vice president for student services.

Killens said 406 new or transfer students registered for the 2009 fall term, which surpassed the previous one-day total of 388 students. Killens hopes the record turnout is an indication of what’s to come in the fall.

“We are very appreciative of the 400-plus students who came to campus Friday and registered for fall classes,” Killens said.

“And we hope that another 400 or so students will attend the next orientation session as well. We would very much like to have a record enrollment this fall.”

Four additional orientation sessions will be held prior to fall classes getting under way and are scheduled June 20, July 9, July 22 and Aug. 14.

Fall classes begin Aug. 20.

East Central experienced its second largest enrollment in 2008, as 2,640 students registered for fall classes. The highest enrollment to date was recorded in 2004 when 2,739 students took fall classes.
