Three arrests made on EC campus

NEWTON Three East Central Community college students were arrested over the weekend for having marijuana on campus and being in possession of a firearm on campus.

Arrested were Marcus Darrell Warnsley age 21, Timothy Dewayne Wright, 24 and Jacoby Jewon Toole age 19. All three were charged with possession of marijuana and Warnsley was also charged with possession of a firearm.

“We received a call that some people were possibly selling marijuana on the East Central Campus parking lot,” Decatur Chief of Police Joedy Pennington said. “When we arrived and searched the car we found an ounce of marijuana in the car along with an automatic pistol on the seat of the vehicle that belonged to Warnsley.”

All three are being held in the Newton County Jail.

Another unrelated incident took place on the ECCC campus about 10:45 p.m. Sunday night when a student was allegedly robbed at gunpoint. Jeremy Antrail Holifield, 19 and Wesley Gerrard Ricks, 18, stole a cell phone from a student and then ran off, according to Pennington.

“We had them in custody around 12:30 a.m.” Pennington said. “Holifield is being charged with armed robbery and possession of a weapon on school property, Ricks is charged with accessory before the fact of armed robbery. The student who was robbed didn’t have his wallet on him so all they got was his cell phone.”

All are being held at the Newton County Jail awaiting a bond hearing.
