Country music night at the Depot

NEWTON

Saturday night Nov. 22 beginning at 7 p.m. the Historic Newton Depot will be the setting for another fun-filled night of live music featuring local musician Larry Blackburn and Friends along with other guitar players.

“We had a very successful night at the first one we had in October,” host Barry Roebuck with Roebuck and Sons Music said. “We probably had over 100 people that came in throughout the night to listen to local songwriters and musicians.”

The event will be a walk through country music with early hits of Jimmie Rodgers and Hank Williams to the much loved songs of Merle Haggard.

“Also featured will be a group of young musicians doing the current hits of Sugarland and Taylor Swift,” Roebuck said. “We are really looking foward to hearing the talent of these local young people.”

Roebuck said it will be the last fourth Saturday night of the month performance for this year as their will be a break for Christmas events in December.

“After the first of the year we have booked the Mike Kish Band out of Hattiesburg which features Austin Roebuck on bass,” Roebuck said. “This group has just finished their live CD which will be released in January of 2009.”

Sponsors, Newton Chamber of Commerce and Roebuck and Sons Music invite you to come out and support events at the Depot. Admission is $5 with children 10 and under free.
