DECATUR Juniors Hunter Smith and Anthony Williams both scored three touchdowns and a two-point conversion as the Newton County Academy Generals steamrolled Central Academy 55-14 last Friday night at Macon.

NCA improved to 5-4, while the Vikings dropped to 1-8. The Generals are 1-2 in MPSA District 4-A.

The Generals scored 20 points in the first quarter, then added 22 more in the second in taking a 42-7 lead into halftime.

Eleven different players ran the ball at least once for the Generals with 20 players credited with at least one tackle.

“We enjoyed getting to play all those freshmen the last quarter and a half,” NCA assistant coach Chase Nicholson said. “They have been out there practicing with us the last few weeks and have been wanting to play. They really haven’t had a chance to play and we got to see what they can do. They really did good.

“It’s always a good game when everybody gets to touch the ball or do something and have a little fun.

“It’s a good game to have right now. We really needed that as far as getting everybody’s spirits up.”

Brody Thomas opened the scoring with a 25-yard touchdown pass from Rob Roberts. Roberts, who threw four touchdown passes in the win, teamed with Smith for a 15-yard touchdown and an early 12-0 lead.

Smith then scored on an 8-yard run and added a two-point conversion for a 20-0 first quarter lead. For the night, Smith had 143 yards on 15 rushes and caught three passes for 47 yards.

After picking up a team safety, the Generals got a 20-yard blocked punt return for a touchdown by Williams.

Roberts connected with Tyler Feldman on a 62-yard touchdown pass and Williams scored on a 3-yard run, then added a two-point conversion for a 42-7 halftime bulge.

NCA added two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter. The first came on a 15-yard pass from Roberts to Smith and the second was a 35-yard interception return by Williams.
