Ever since Ben’s Ford Christian School knocked the Newton County Academy girls out of the Class A South Central Tournament with a 44-34 opening-round loss last February, the Lady Generals have been itching for payback.
They got it Friday night in Decatur with a 53-26 spanking of the Lady Eagles. The Lady Generals improved to 11-3 with the win.
The Generals dropped to 5-4 with a 71-62 loss to the Eagles.
NCA closes out first semester action Friday at Kemper Academy. The Generals and Lady Generals won’t see action again until Jan. 4 when Christian Collegiate Academy of Gulfport comes to Decatur as NCA has withdrawn from the University Christian School holiday tournament. Games at Winston Academy on Dec. 17 were also canceled.
NCA girls 53, Ben’s Ford 26
The Lady Generals jumped out to a 29-4 first quarter lead in whipping winless Ben’s Ford Friday at Decatur.
In the opening period, NCA got nine points from Abby McMillan, seven from Casey Rowzee, and six from Anna-Rose Blaylock.
The Lady Generals led 35-9 through three quarters and 44-15 to start the fourth quarter.
McMillan finished with 13 points. NCA, 11-3, also got nine from Hanah Parker, eight each from Blaylock and Rowzee, five from Anna Williams, and four from Leanne Killen.
Ben’s Ford got 11 points from Gina Flynn and eight from Dakota Lott.
Ben’s Ford 71, NCA boys 62
The visiting Eagles outscored NCA 41-30 over the middle quarters to take Friday’s contest at Decatur.
NCA led 22-17 after one quarter, only to enter halftime knotted at 36. Ben’s Ford carried a 58-52 advantage into the fourth quarter.
Brody Thomas scored 23 points, 17 in the first half, to lead NCA, 5-4. The Generals also got 16 points from Landon Burt, nine from Cody Cotten, and six each from Rob Roberts and Ryan Morrison.
Micah Simmons led Ben’s Ford with 24 points. B.B. Sorrell scored 16, Brett Slaughter had 12, Ethan Vernon eight, and Casey Mayo six.
