NEWTON Rosalyn Blass

Services for Mr. Rosalyn Blass were held Thursday, March 8 at Milling Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Kenneth Harrison officiated with burial in the Newton Memorial Garden.

Mr. Blass, 83, passed away Tuesday, March 6 at his residence at 803 South Main Street in Newton.



Mary Scruggs Ferguson

Services for Mrs. Mary Scruggs Ferguson were held Thursday, March 8, 2007 at Milling Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Bobby Ferguson and the Rev. Keith Grubbs officiated with burial in the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Meridian.

Mrs. Ferguson, 48, died Monday, March 5, 2007 at her residence in Hickory, Mississippi.

Survivors include her husband; David Ferguson of Hickory, three sons; Trey Stewart of Hickory, Chris Ferguson and wife Denise of Hickory, Allen Ferguson and his wife Jennifer of Hickory, two granddaughters; Allison Ferguson and Natalie Ferguson both of Hickory, mother; Gladys Scruggs of Meridian, two sisters; Shelia Braswell and husband Mike of Conyers, Georgia, Pat Smith and husband Al of Locust Grove, Georgia, one sister-in-law; Judy Scruggs of Monroe, Georgia.

Pallbearers were Chris Ferguson, Allen Ferguson, Mike Braswell, Chris Franklin, Jerry Ranier and Billy Smith.

Mrs. Ferguson is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father T.M. Scruggs and a brother Wayne Scruggs and a sister Betty Fuller.

Mrs. Ferguson was a member of Smyrna Baptist Church of Union. She was a 29 - year employee of East Mississippi State Hospital where she served as administrative assistant to the hospital administrator for over 18 years. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, daughter-in-law, sister and friend. She was also a professional importer and breeder of German Shepherd Show Dogs and Toy Australian Shepherds. Mary owned the two blood hounds that are being certified for Newton County Search and Rescue Unit.



George H. Motley

George H. Motley, 82, died Wednesday, March 7, 2007, at the Care Center in Clinton. Funeral services were held Saturday at the funeral home chapel with burial in the Beulah Baptist Church cemetery in Newton County.

Motley was the owner of Old Timers Bar-B-Que in Richland. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Richland and the Masonic Lodge of Richland.

He was preceded in death by his wife Elois Christine Hill Motley. Survivors include: sons Gary Motley of Richland and Rob Motley and wife Monica of Richland, daughter; Virginia Halkias and husband John of Richland, brothers; Graham, William and Chaney, sisters; Grace, Lona, Carlene and Maude; grandchildren Kosta Halkias, Sophia Halkias, Beth Motley and Katie Motley.

The family would like to thank the staffs of the Care Center in Clinton and Southerncare Hospice for their care and support.

Bessie Irene Massey

Services were held for Mrs. Bessie Irene Massey at 1 p.m. at Stephens Funeral Home in Union on Saturday, March 10, 2007. Officiating at the service was Revs. Jimmy McDill and Roger Laird. Burial was in Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery, in Little Rock, Mississippi.

Mrs. Massey, 70, of Little Rock Mississippi died at J.G. Alexander Nursing Center in Union.

Survivors include son; Claud E. Massey, Little Rock, four sisters; Doris Taylor and husband Bill, Foley, Alabama, Marie Butts and husband Howard, Little Rock, Mississippi, Delma Dean and husband Sammy, Loxley, Alabama, Ann Harris, Union, one brother, L.L. “Jack” Harris and wife Katherine, Clarkdale, a special friend; Junita Butler, Little Rock.

She was preceded in death by her husband Mack “Biggs” Massey and a sister Lorene Riley.

Pallbearers were; Ronald and Nathan Harris, James Dean, Arnold Butts, James Taylor and Joseph Grove. Honorary pallbearer Jonathan Ferguson.



James Matthew Walley

Services for James Matthew Walley will be held Wednesday, March 14 at 2 p.m. at Hopewell Methodist Church. Visitation will be Tuesday March 13 from 5-9 p.m at Webb Funeral Home and will lie in state at the Church 30 minutes before service with the Rev. Bill Hutto officiating, with James F. Webb Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Walley, 28, of Newton died March 11, 2007 in Lauderdale County.

Survivors include: Parents; Gloria and Randall Walley, Newton, two brothers; Randall Lee and his wife Helen Walley, Pineville, Mississippi, Andrew Brown Walley, Newton, grandparents; Naomi Walley, Rose Hill, Ms, two nieces; Sharlee Breanna Walley, Forest, Helen Michelle Walley, Pineville, Ms, one nephew; Justin Lee Walley, Pineville, Ms.

He was employed in the Polly Department at La-Z-Boy Chair Company. Walley was born in Newton and was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. He was an avid fisherman and hunter.

Pallbearers will be Lee Walley, Andrew Walley, Blue Deason, Pat Solitro, Rassie Walley, Thomas Smith, Timmy Carroll and Bill Kennedy.
