Carl Durward Loper
Retired
NEWTON — Services for Carl Durward Loper were held Saturday at Barham Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Jack Kern and Mark Vincent officiating. Burial was in Newton County Memorial Garden Cemetery.
Mr. Loper, 79, of Decatur, died Thursday, May 3, 2007, in his home.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Sally Ruth Loper of Decatur; daughters, Gwen Burns and her husband, Bob, of Brandon and Brenda Clearman and her husband, Herman, of Meridian; brother, Gene Loper of Decatur and a sister, Maurice Blackburn of Decatur; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl Loper and Vera Loper Mason; a daughter, Felecia Ruth Loper; granddaughter, Kim Adkins and brothers, Clyde Loper and Earl Loper.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in World War II. He retired from the Mississippi Highway Department. He also taught for several years at East Central Community College. He was a member of Clarke/Venable Baptist Church. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother. He was a friend to all who knew him and had a passion for building and inventing.
Pallbearers were Carl Adkins, Michael Loper, Wallace Strickland, Kenneth Pettigrew, Phil Frolich and Wayne Loper.
Visitation was Friday at the funeral home.

Cortney Renee Carraway
SEBASTOPOL – Memorial services for Cortney Renee Carraway were held Saturday, May 5, 2007 at Milling Funeral Home Chapel of Sebastopol. Rev. Jim Reed officiated.
Ms. Carraway, 19, passed away Thursday, May 3, 2007 at University Medical Center in Jackson, Ms.
Survivors include: One daughter Breanna Clair Carraway of Sebastopol, parents Rhonda and Teddy Carraway of Sebastopol, two brothers, Gary Majewski and wife Melissa of Houston, Texas and Cody Carraway of Sebastopol.
Maternal grandparents; Annette and Paul Blackmon of Houston, Texas, paternal grandparents; Mary J. Finley of Sebastopol, maternal great grandparents; Earline and George Hayman of Humble, Texas; paternal great grandmother; Velma Wilkerson of Montrose, Ms. Cortney is survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Cortney will be remembered for her loving smiles and enjoying life. She touched everyone’s life she came in contact with. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Cortney is preceded in death by maternal grandfather; Ray W. Kendrick, Jr. and paternal grandfather; Hugh Victor Carraway.

Mrs. Lenora Blankenship Wroten
Mrs. Lenora Blankenship Wroten, 86, of Corinth, Ms, passed away Friday, May 4, 2007 at her home. Funeral services were Sunday, May 6, 2007, at the Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Corinth with Bro. Harold Burcham and Bro. Warren Jones officiating. She will be interred in the family plot at Decatur Cemetery in Decatur, Ms.
Mrs. Wroten was a member of Strickland Baptist Church and the Fleet Reserve Ladies Auxiliary Branch #120 in Oxnard, California. She was a former Decatur restaurant owner, a dedicated military wife, and a loving mother. She enjoyed bird watching, fishing, and working with her flowers. Mrs. Wroten will be well remembered for delivering her signature saying, “Give me the recipe.” anytime friends or family would tell her to be good. She will be deeply missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Willam and Nina Brock Blankenship; a brother, Leroy Blankenship, and a sister, Illa Ross.
Mrs. Wroten leaves behind her husband of fifty-five year, Gaines Wroten; son, Michael Wroten and his wife Gail; daughters; Peggy Harrison, Nelda Luce and her husband Les, and Debbie Wroten; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Opal Seago and Elora Mills; and a brother, Billy Joe Blankenship.
Pallbearers were Ray Adkins, Tony Harrison, Carroll Mills, Lewis Chandler, Richard Luce, and Gaines Luce. Honorary Pallbearers are Jim Roberts and Les Luce.
Memorial donations in honor of Mrs. Lenora Wroten may be sent to Strickland Baptist Church, 554 CR 306, Corinth Ms 38834.

Annie Mae Chapman
Hickory
Arrangements for Mrs. Annie Mae Chapman Wright, died on Saturday, May 5th at University Medical Center, Jackson. (Born April 4, 1933) She was 74.
Clark’s Memorial Funeral Home is handling her final arrangements.
Services are as follows: Visitation -Clark’s Memorial Funeral Home,621 30th Avenue Meridian from 1 pm-7pm on Wednesday, May 9th
Homegoing Services will be held at Central United Methodist Church, 1004 23rd Avenue, Meridian at 1 pm on Thursday, May 10th. The body will lie in state at the church from 12 pm-1 pm.
She was the wife of Rev. Clovis V. Wright of Meridian, formerly Hickory, MS.
She was the mother of 14 children, three preceding her in death, 38 grands, 19 great-grands, eight sisters, two brothers and hosts of other relatives and friends.

Joe C. Madden
Brandon
Joe C. Madden, age 72, died Thursday, April 12, 2007, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. Services were Sunday, April 15, 2007 at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon with graveside services in Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery in Newton County. Rev. Sam Taylor officiated the services.
Mr. Madden was born on November 7, 1934, to the William Leo Madden and Onie Patrick Madden. He was a member of Robinhood Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and head of the senior adult department. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force in which he served from 1952 until 1960.
Survivors include his wife, Jackie H. Madden of Brandon; sister, Mildred Madden White of Valrico, FL; brother Marion Austin Madden and wife Francis of Eugene, OR; sister–in–laws, Nett Madden of Forest, Mary Roberts of Covington, LA, Betty Hicks and husband Glenn of Hickory and Darlene Weir and husband Sam of Hickory and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Madden was preceded in death by a brother, James L. Madden and by his parents.
Pallbearers were Mr. Madden’s nephews.

Herbert Henry Johnson
Herbert Henry Johnson 95, of Ocean Springs, formerly of Lawrence, died May 7, 2007 at home. Services will be held at Barham Funeral Home Chapel in Newton on May 9 at 2:00 P.M. with the Rev. Tom Sorrell officiating. Burial will be in Hickory Cemetery with Barham Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
He was born April 22, 1912 in Mount Olive, MS, the son of Bob and Lucy Johnson and grew up in Buelah Hubbard. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Florene Rhodes Johnson, whom he married on March 15, 1941; two daughters, Dr. Martha Tipton and her husband Dr. Jon of Marietta, Ohio, Jean Cahill and her husband Bill of Ocean Springs; three sons, Bill Johnson and his wife Sandra of Prentiss, Tom Johnson and his wife Judy of Madison, Joe Johnson and his wife Karen of Tupelo; 1 brother, Col. Isham Johnson of San Antonio, TX; 7 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters Ruth Minick of Artesia, NM, Blanche Glenn of Decatur, Grace Wroten of Waco, TX; 6 brothers, Elby Johnson of Barbarton, OH, William Johnson of Akron, OH, Robert Johnson of Hickory, Hailey Johnson of Artesia, NM, Wallace Johnson of Holland, MI, and Dr. Rayner Johnson of Tallahassee, FL.
After working for the Ford Motor company of Dearborn, MI as a young man, he returned to Mississippi to be a farmer, owning farms first in Beulah Hubbard and later south of Decatur. For two years, he farmed in Artesia, NM. Upon retirement, he moved to Lawrence where he was a member of the Newton United Methodist Church. Previously, he was a member of the Hickory United Methodist Church. He spent the last 9 years of his life in Ocean Springs.
Pallbearers were Kendrick Johnson, Bill Johnson, Jr., Gerald Glen, Bill Shefield, Dewayne Brewer, Billy Houston, Scott Churylo, Ken Morgan.
