NEWTON — Services for Sara Elizabeth Linville Heard were held June 20 at Decatur United Methodist Church. Burial was in Brooksville Cemetery. Newton County Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Heard, 80, of Decatur, died Monday, June 18, 2007, in Mountain Home, Ark. She was born in Ripley and grew up in Trenton, Tenn. After graduating from Peabody High School in Trenton, she received bachelor and masters degrees from Mississippi State College for Women (Now Mississippi University for Women). She taught science in Columbus and West Point and later taught college level science at East Central Community College and sponsored Phi Theta Kappa. She retired from teaching in 1987. She was an active member of the community of Decatur and belonged to the Decatur First United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, the Progressive Club and the Steel Magnolias. She was a past member of Delta Kappa Gamma.
Survivors include her husband, George Heard of Decatur; daughters, Melissa and her husband, Charlie, of Pensacola, Fla., Beth and her husband, Randy, of Forest, Nancy and her husband, Bob, of Huntsville, Ala.; a son, Tom and his wife, Becky, of Madison; grandchildren, Samantha Dorsett, Tyler Dorsett, Jason Eason and his wife, Leslie, Sarah Jane Eason, Matthew Heard, Lauren Heard, Sydney Campbell, Rob Campbell, George Campbell and two great-grandchildren, Eason and Cole Logan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Sarah Linville and a sister, Jane Campbell.
