Robert Berdet Simmons

Retired heavy equipment operator

UNION — Services for Robert Berdet Simmons were held Sunday, July 15, 2007 at Milling Funeral Home with burial in Providence Cemetery in Lauderdale County. Bro. John Gardner officiated.
Mr. Simmons, 75, died Thursday, July 12, 2007, at Riley Hospital. He served in the U.S. Navy for eight years and was a veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his daughters, Debbie Wright and her husband, Arthur, of Florence, Liz Parks and her husband, Larry and Dianne Nelson and her husband, Gale, all of Newton; eight grandchildren, Kim Rowzee, Jason Gardner, Michael Parks, Michele Hollingsworth, Matt Parks, Christy Bennett, Corbie Nelson and Jonathan Spears and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Vesper Simmons; his wife Quanice Smith Simmons, second wife, Bernice Simmons; and a daughter, Tammie Spears.
Pallbearers were Mike Covert, Randy Winterstein, Greg Donald, Steve Milling, Larry Pearson, Dr. Kary Whitehead, Jonathan Spears and Gerald Spears. Alternate: James Rowzee

Artice Kriedeman

NEWTON --- Memorial services for Artice Kriedeman were held Saturday, July 14, 2007 at 4 p.m. at the Chunky United Methodist Church. James F. Webb Funeral Home of Newton was in charge of arrangements.
Born Artice Alma Moen on November 29, 1929, in Monfort, Wisconsin at the home of her Grandma Althaus, it was here she grew up and graduated from Monfort High School. Artice went home to be with our Lord, July 12, 2007.
Artice, a precious wife, friend, and companion, married Eugene Kriedeman September 8, 1951 at the Methodist Church in Monfort, Wisconsin. She had an abundance of love, patience, compassion, creativity and forgiveness. She was an avid reader, excellent cook, needle pointer, with excellent marksmanship, a love of nature an eye for prudent shopping, and a specialty for cafe clutching, and family entertaining. Most of all, she was a mother and a wife to a farmer and musician, a faithful servant of the Lord.
The Lord blessed Artice and Eugene with seven children. Eugenia lives in Elko, New York. Teena lives in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. Evelyn lives in Paradise, Texas. Steven lives in Cambridge, Wisconsin. Teresa lives in Chunky. Otto lives in Madison, Wisconsin. She’s a grandmother to 14 grandchildren, and a great-grandmother to five great-grandchildren.
Her son Stanley, preceded her in death in 1996 to heaven’s gate.
She also was preceded in death by other family members: her mother; Alma Moen in 1991, her father; Arthur Moen in 1973, and her four brothers; Russell in 1991, Merlin in 1969, Francis in 1935 and Bernard in 1930.

Mrs. Cookie McCrory, 77, died Wednesday, July 11, 2007, at St. Dominic
Hospital in Jackson. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Friday, July 13,
2007 at Forest Presbyterian Church in Forest with burial in Eastern Cemetery.
Rev. Mark Smith, Rev. Tom Irby and Rev. Charles Douglas officiated. Ott & Lee
Funeral Home in Forest handled arrangements.


W.A. (Dubb) Todd
Hickory
Services for Mr. W.A. (Dubb) Todd were held Friday, July 7, 2007 at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, with the Reverends Thomas Laird, Winnie McMahhon and Leon Everett officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery with Newton County Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Todd, age 71 of Hickory died July 4, 2007 at Anderson’s Hospital in Meridian. He was a self-employed carpenter.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Mrs. Janie Bennett Todd of Hickory, sons; David and wife Ann Todd of Chunky, Dewayne and wife Lisa of Collinsville, Danny and wife Karen Todd of Hickory, one brother; Terry and wife Dianne Todd, two sisters; Ellene Jones, Geraldene and husband Leon Taylor, grandchildren; Josh and wife Leah Todd, Travis and wife Brenda Todd, Danny and wife Mallory Todd, Tiffany and husband Bryan Griffith, Keri and husband Josh Knost, great-grandchildren; Taylor, Tanna, Jolee and Laynee Todd, Kayela, Christopher, Kaiden Griffith and Jace Knost, sister-in-law; Margene Davis. He is also survived by a aunt, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by parents; David and Bessie Rigdon Todd, sister; Waudene Pugh, brothers; G.W. Todd, Wayne Todd, and grandson Dustan Todd.
The family requests memorials be made to The Gideons and The American Cancer Society.
Mr. Todd will be remembered as one who loved his church, family, fishing and camping.
Pallbearers were; Arleigh Allen, Bobby Caldwell, Larry Crader, John Todd, Raymond McMillan and Mike McNeil. Honorary pallbearers were; Josh Todd, Travis Todd, Danny Todd, Jr., Bryan Griffith, Josh Knost, Taylor Todd and Christopher Griffith.
