Benson Norris Russell
Winner Charles Russell
NEWTON — Memorial services for Benson Norris Russell and Winner Charles Russell were held Friday at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Newton. James F. Webb Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Benson and Winner, infant sons of Rusty and Georgia Russell, passed away Sunday, July 15, 2007, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center in Meridian.
Survivors include their parents, Rusty and Georgia Russell of Newton; paternal grandparents, Jerry and Patricia Russell of Union; maternal grandparents, Bill and Carol Mabry of Newton; paternal great-grandmothers, Imogene Russell of Decatur and Annie Pearl Cook of Carthage.
The twins were preceded in death by their paternal great-grandfathers, Norris Amos Russell of Decatur, Ben Cook of Carthage; maternal great-grandparents, Wilmer and Cerelle Mabry of Gulfport and George and Abbye McElroy of Hernando.
Joe Frank Hilly
Services for Joe Frank Hilly were held Saturday, July 21, 2007 at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael Pickens officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Clark’s Memorial Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Hilly, 85, of Newton, died Tuesday, July 17, 2007, at Heartfelt Hospice in Meridian.
Mattie P. Strait
Funeral services for Mattie P. Strait were held Sunday, July 22, 2007 at 2:30 p.m. at Pine Ridge Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Laird officiaing. Burial was in Pine Ridge Cemetery. James F. Webb Funeral Home of Newton is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Strait, 83, of Lawrence, died Thursday, July 19, 2007 at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.
Survivors include: her husband: Clinton Strait of Lawrence; two daughters, Sheila Wade of Elmerdorf, Texas and Pamelia Kaye Bush of Lawrence, a son, Danny Ray Strait of San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren: James C. Wade, Jody Slade Bush, Jessica Bush, Shanna Bush, and Roxanne Strait; great-grandchildren: Sierra LaTendras, and Gabriela James; sisters: Lucille Grocki and Mary E. Bourbeau of Avon, Conn.; brother, Albert Bell of Houston, Texas.
Mrs. Sarah Maxine Smith
Services for Ms. Sarah Maxine Smith were to be held Wednesday, July 25, 2007 at Mt. Zion Congregational Methodist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Todd Thompson and Rev. Gilbert Allan will officiate.
Mrs. Smith, 85, passed away Sunday, July 22, 2007 at her residence in Union.
Survivors include; two sons, Joseph Mack Smith, Sr. and wife Freida of Union and Dr. H.M. Smith and wife Rhonda of Union, five grandchildren, Jody Smith of Gainesville, Ga., Kimberly Horne, Karen Smith, Philip Smith and Shana Smith, all of Union; three great-grandchildren, Abigail Horne and Alex Horne of Union, Emma Kate Smith of Gainesville, Ga,, a sister, Bessie Smith and husband, N.F. Smith of Brandon.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Mack Smith and three brothers, Malcolm Spence, John Spence and Jerry Spence.
Pallbearers: Andy Gardner, Jim Spence, Mark Spence, Mike Spence Paul Spence and John Spence.
Sidney Andrew Majure
1931-2007
Sidney Andrew Majure, 76 of Navarre, Fla. passed away Wednesday, July 18, 2007 in Baptist Hospital of Pensacola, Fla. He was the son of the late Dr. and Mrs. Sidney Andrew Majure of Hickory.
He served in the United States Marines during the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah J. Majure, daughters, Caroline Majure of Destin, Fla., Renee Crump and Rachelle Morgan, both of Navarre, seven grandchildren, Stephanie, Layken, Jamie, Caleb, Jacob, Zac and Chloe. He has a sister, Mary Virginia Dear of Columbus.
A graveside service, officiated by Pastor Pat Howell was held Monday, July 23, 2007 at 12:30 p.m. at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola. Faith Chapel Funeral Home of Pensacola was in charge of arrangements.
Roy Cleveland Smith
Services for Roy Cleveland Smith were to be held Wednesday, July 25, 2007 at Center Ridge Baptist Church with burial in Providence Baptist Church Cemetery. the Revs. James McMillan, Jackie Strebeck and Lin Chesney officiated.
Smith, 90, passed away Monday, July 23, 2007 at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include; loving wife of 73 years; Lorene Smith of Little Rock; five daughters, Betty Kilpatrick and husband Billy of Little Rock, Tommie Sue Butts and husband James of Chunky, Autrice Patterson and husband Billy of Little Rock, Gail Haygood and husband Donald and Reatha Hillhouse and husband Richard, all of Chunky; five sons, Cleveland Smith of Decatur, R.D. Smith and wife Elizabeth of Chunky, Jackie Smith and wife Deborah of Little Rock, Truman Smith and wife Wydell of Chunky and Wendell Smith and wife Lillie of Little Rock; 22 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren, several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Quanice Simmons, a granddaughter Tammie Renee Spears and a grandson Robbie Neal Patterson.
Smith was a deacon of Center Ridge Baptist Church. He served as Past President of the Mississippi Fox Hunters Association. He was a retired inspector for Mississippi State Highway Department.
