Magelene McMillan
Funeral services for Ms. magelene McMillan were be held at 3:00 p.m. August 3, 2006, at White Plains Assembly of God with Rev. Donald turner and Rev. Kendall Turner officiating with burial in the church cemetery. Ms. McMillan, 76, died August 2, 2006 at Jeff Anderson Regional Hospital.
Pallbearers were: Jeff Taylor, Iran Hillman, Mitchell Graham, Joe Breedlove, Cully Hedrick and George Hedrick.
Helen M. Cooper
Services for Helen M. Cooper were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 4, 2006 at Clarke-Venable Baptist Church in Decatur with Revs. Mark Vincint and Jerry Strahan officiating. Burial was at decatur City Cemetery in Decatur with Stephens Funeral Home of Union in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include one son, Donald L. Cooper and wife Marths of Decatur; one daughter, Linda C. Strahan and husband Jerry of Angola, Ind.; sis grandsons, Monty Cooper of Union, Lance Cooper of Richland, Brian Cooper of Hickory, Steven Strahan of Galesburg, Mich., Joel and Daniel Strahan of Angola, Ind.; four great grandsons, Brooks Cooper, Austin, Colton and Tyler Strahan; two sisters, Margie Welch of Union and Betty Joyce McNair of Ridgeland; two brothers, Paul McMullan of Mobile, Ala. and Raymond McMullan of Madison.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph C. Cooper; a daughter, Carol Ann Cooper; parents, Joe and Cora McMullan and four brothers, Jack, James, Billy and Fred McMullan.
She was a long time member of Clarke-Venable Baptist Church.
Pallbearers were her grandsons.
Rev. Bobby Gene Jones
Rev. Bobby Gene Jones, 75, died Sunday, August 6, 2006, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland. Services were Tuesday, August 8 at 10 a.m. at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church with burial following in the church cemetery.
Rev. Jones was born on January 13, 1931, to Levoy Payton Jones, Sr. and Mattie Maude Jay Jones. He was a native of the Hero Community and lived his life in Newton. He was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church.
Rev. Jones was a Veteran of the Mississippi National Guard. In 1951, he married Mary Emestine Bolton of Newton and remained a faithful, loving Christian husband for 55 years. He worked for the Newton Company, Borden Milk Products and Laser Oil Company until he surrendered to the ministry at which time he went back to school and attended Clarke College in Newton where he majored in Seminary. He was called to preach by Fair Ridge Baptist Church in Stringer, and he pastured there until a stroke in 1991 ended his tenure. After being diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, he continued to spread God’s Word wherever he was and with whomever he was speaking. He lived his life glorifying God and was a sterling example of faithfulness to the Holy Father. He was preceded in death by his parents and older half-brother James Thomas Jones of St. Louis, Mo.
He is survived by his wife, Ernestine, and two daughters: Mary “Lynn” and husband Joe McGee of Lake, and Gloria Jean “Jane” and husband Gary Beeland of Madison; six grandchildren: Jennifer Lynn “Jennie” McGee and husband Chris Simmons of Lake, Joshua Robert McGee and wife Erica of Lake, Jason Daniel McGee and wife Stephenia of Starkville; Ashley Cordelia Beeland and husband James Todd Hardcastle of McKinney, TX, heather Leigh Beeland of Madison and Jacob Joe McGee of Lake. Two brothers: Levoy Payton Jones, Jr. and wife Irene of Hero and William Ras Jones and wife Betty of Hero.
Officiating the service was Rev. John West of Newton, Rev. Tommy Anderson of Lake, Rev. Slim Burns of Enterprise and Rev. Steve Pouncey of Enterprise.
Pallbearers were Josh McGee, Jason McGee, Chris Simmons, Forrest Ray Sims of Stringer, Bill Jones and Jeff Jones of Hero and Billy Sparkman of Talladega, Ala. Honorary Pallbearers were Levoy Jones, Jr., Ras Jones, Jasper Jones of Memphis, Tenn., Norwood Jones of Jackson, Tenn. and Emmett Bolton and Earl Bolton of Newton.
