NEWTON Grace Montgomery Dean

Funeral services for Grace Montgomery Dean was held Sunday, September 30, 2007 at 3 p.m. at Poplar Springs Baptist Church in Newton with Dr. David Rives and Dr. Bryce Evans officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with James F. Webb Funeral Home of Newton in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Dean, 87, of Columbus, formally of Newton, died Thursday, September 27, 2007, at Trinity Health Care. She was born February 20, 1920 in Jasper County. Mrs. Dean was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother. She was a contented homemaker and lover her home and her flowers. She also loved the Poplar Springs community and all of her friends. She was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church in Newton, and Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Columbus.

Survivors include: two sons; John (Sandy) Dean of Brandywine, MD; Mark (Tina) Dean of Collinsville MS; one daughter; Quilla Faye (Charles) Everett of Columbus, MS; six grandchildren: Becky (Keith) Hayes; Carol Ann (Patrick) James; Kelly Dean; Christy (Doug) Cox; Michael Dean; McKenna Grace Dean; five great-grandchildren; Cooper James, Mason Dean, Katie Hayes, Molly James and Marley Cox.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Simmons Dean

Pallbearers were: Doug Cox, Keith Hayes, Patrick James, Ron Holsonback, Tony Adams and Frank Baucum.

Honorary Pallbearers were members of the Poplar Springs community, and the Trinity Health Care Staff.

Linda Kay Blount Jones

Linda Kay Blount Jones 56, died peacefully in her sleep...surrounded by her family, Friday September 28th in Fairhope, Alabama.

Funeral Services were held at Fairhope United Methodist Church, where she was a devoted member and Sunday School teacher. Burial was in Memory Gardens of Fairhope with Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home in charge.

Linda lived much of her childhood in Decatur, Miss with her paternal grandmother Eva Blount. She attended and ran track at Decatur High School. She also attended Decatur United Methodist Church as a child .

Linda was a loving and dedicated 3rd grade school teacher and had taught school at Fairhope Elementary most of her career. She was Teacher of the Year for Baldwin

County, Alabama. She is credited for developing a butterfly garden on the school

grounds ...where, each year her students could watch the life cycle of the Monarch butterfly. This garden was dedicated as the “Linda Jones Butterfly Garden”. She was instrumental in numerous grants for her student’s education...and won the Presidential Award for Science...where she was honored by and visited with President George Bush.

Her love of God, music, and flowers, was showered over her family, friends, and students.

Survivors include her two sons, Chad Blount Jones and wife Deni, John Ryan Jones and wife Jamie, daughter Jennifer Brett Jones , three grandchildren Haven, Landon and Cale Jones, all of Fairhope, Alabama, and her father Billy Blount of Laurel, Miss. Linda was the niece of John Blount and Doloros Blount Thomas of Decatur and Mary Blount Logan, of Newton.

She was preceded in death by her mother Charlotte Blount Wright, a brother Ben Blount, her baby sister Billie Gayle Blount, and paternal grandparents John E. and Eva Blount.

Linda’s presence on this earth will be missed by her family and friends...but the Spiritual mark she made on all who knew her will remain forever.

Her motto: “A Happy Heart Makes the Face Cheerful” is the story of her life.

Memorials can be made to the new Rotational Sunday School Program at Decatur United Methodist Church in Decatur, Ms.





Warren J. Peebles

Warren J. Peebles, 61, passed away at his home in Newton, MS on September 26, 2007. He was a cherished husband, father, brother, grandfather and dear friend to many.

Warren was born April 22, 1946 and reared in Milwaukee, WI. He received a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh, and two Master’s degrees from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. Warren worked and traveled the world as a mechanical engineer until retiring in 2005. He was actively involved in the town of Newton and enjoyed fellowship at First Baptist Church of Newton.

Survivors include his wife Sherryl, children; Dr. Todd Peebles and wife Leela of Appleton, WI, Kala Peebles and husband Robert Manalo of Minneapolis , MN, Denisa Davis and husband Jason of Clinton, MS, and Chad Breland and wife Becky of Foley, AL. He is also survived by his three siblings; Kathleen Peebles, Keith Peebles and Pat Burke and thirteen grandchildren.

A Memorial service was held Saturday, September 29, 2007 at 11 am at the First Baptist Church in Newton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (800) 955-4572.
