Charles Naurice Crenshaw Jr.
Services for Charles Naurice Crenshaw Jr. will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at United Methodist Church in Newton with the Rev. Tom Sorrell officiating. Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Forest is in charge of arrangements. Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery.
Dr. Crenshaw, 77, of Newton, died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2006, at his home. He was a native of Tchula. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Dr. Crenshaw had practiced medicine for over 40 years. He was a member of Newton United Methodist Church. He lived in Morton prior to moving to Newton.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Crenshaw of Newton, two daughters, Joellyn Brelsford and her husband, Mark, of Dripping Springs, Texas and Jan Frady and her husband, Chad, of Chunky; four sons, Charles Crenshaw III and his wife, Jayne, of Brandon, Louis P. Crenshaw, of Lawrence, Howard Crenshaw and his wife, Kay, of Newton, and Kim B. Crenshaw and his wife, Marion, of Newton; four grandchildren, Cari Crenshaw, Leslie Crenshaw, Ashley Frady and Charles Crenshaw IV.
Pallbearers will be Charles Crenshaw, Louis P. Crenshaw, Howard Crenshaw, Kim B. Crenshaw, Chad Frady and Mark Brelsford. Memorials may be sent to Newton United Methodist Church in Newton.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. today at Newton United Methodist Church.
Velma Cole
Services were held for Velma Cole at Shiloh M.B. Church in Newton, with the Rev. L.L. Logan officiating. Holifield Funeral Home in Forest was in charge of arrangements. Interment was at Shiloh Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Cole was born on May 25, 1913 in Chunky. She was the first born child of Frank and Wealthy Cannon. Her early childhood days were spent in the Boose community, where she received her education.
On March 24, 1929, Velma married Bro. Willie Cole in Newton County. They had 9 children. She was a member of Shiloh Church, and was an active Eastern Star. She taught Sunday school, and was a member of the Red Circle as well as the Home Mission Society.
Survivors include seven daughters and two sons: Myrtle Ruth Jones of Newton, Lois Jones of Millville, NJ, Rosie Walker of Gulfport, Jeanette Lay of Zion, Ill., Martha Payne of Gulfport, Margaret Needham of Newton, Carolyn Maryland of Biloxi, Charles Cole of Los Angeles, Cal. and William Cole of Newton; three brothers: Joe, Odell and Frank Cannon all of New Jersey; two sisters: Etta James and Ruby Cannon, also residing in New Jersey; one sister-in-law, Dora Cole of Union; thirty-five grandchildren, forty-two great-grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren.
Velma died on Oct. 1,
2006.
Martha Perry Hardin
Mrs. Martha Perry Hardin, 81, died Monday, Oct. 9 at her residence in Magee. Services were Wednesday, Oct. 11 at Lawrence Cemetary, graveside services at 2 p.m.
