The Newton County Academy Lady Generals came away with a split in their first two slowpitch softball games of 2008.
NCA opened with a 9-6 loss to Heidelberg Academy, then bounced back to thrash Grace Christian School 18-4.
NCA hosted Grace on Monday and will go to Russell Christian Academy on Thursday in this week’s action. Tuesday’s game with Alpha Christian School was cancelled.
Heidelberg 9
NCA 6
The Lady Rebels scored five runs in the bottom of the third inning to win the March 20 game at Heidelberg.
NCA, 0-1, got two singles and a double from Alexa Roberts, three singles from Casey Rowzee, a single and a double from Katelyn Stamper, and two singles each from Anna Williams, Carly Thomas, and Casey Jo Parker.
Lauren Shimfessel, Anna-Rose Blaylock, Hannah Smith, and Leanne Killen each had one single.
Williams (0-1) took the loss.

Grace Christian 4
Leading 9-2, the Lady Generals erupted for nine runs in the sixth inning of the March 25 win over the Lady Eagles.
Hannah Smith had a single, a double, and a home run for NCA, 1-1. Alexa Roberts had a triple and a pair of singles. Anna Williams, Katelyn Stamper, Leanne Killen, Lauren Shimfessel, and Casey Jo Parker each had three singles.
NCA also got two singles each from Kelsi Robinson and Carly Thomas and a single and a double from Anna-Rose Blaylock.
Williams (1-1) got the win.

Three losses in their last three outings have dropped the Newton County Academy Generals record on the baseball diamond to 3-6.
In this week’s action, NCA hosted Lamar Christian on Monday and is slated to go to Russell Christian Academy on Thursday. The Generals travel to Central Hinds Academy on April 7 and host Wayne Academy on April 8. The April 1 game with Alpha Christian School was cancelled.
Heidelberg 14
NCA 3
Colby Reeves (3-1) tossed a three-hitter to lead the Rebels past the Generals on March 20 at Heidelberg.
The Rebels took a 5-0 lead in the first inning and added four runs in both the second and third frames to go up 13-0.
Losing pitcher Landon Burt had a double for the Generals, 3-4. Chris Harris and Jeffery Maxwell both had a single.
Blake Denham had a double and a two-run homer to lead Heidelberg, 10-3.
Colby Smith had a single and a double. Joseph Collins had a double.
Winston 14
NCA 5
The host Patriots scored six runs in both the third and fifth frames in taking the March 25 game at Louisville.
NCA, 3-5 had three hits with Anthony Williams getting a pair of singles and Jeffery Maxwell hitting a two-run homer in the third inning.
Winston got a double and a triple from Tyler Dalton, a single and a triple from Channing Bucklew, and a pair of doubles from Tyler Moffitt..
Dylan Morgan got the win.
Leake 18
NCA 1
Allen Johnson (1-0) made his return to the mound Friday after undergoing knee surgery and came away with a 10-strikeout performance in the five-inning win over the Generals.
NCA, 3-6, had three hits with Brody Thomas getting a triple and Ethan Lewis and Landon Burt both getting a single Thomas took the loss.
Leake, 7-6, got three doubles from Trent Travis, a home run from Dan Moody, and a triple each from Crosby McDonald and Payton Pierce.
