Newton County finished 11th out of 12 teams in the Class 3A state golf tournament at River Birch Golf Club in Amory, May 6-7.
Amory won a second straight Class 3A state championship, beating runner-up Booneville by 23 strokes.
Amory shot a two-day total of 611. The Panthers were followed by Booneville (634), Ripley (686), Franklin County (694), Purvis (703), Senatobia (704), North Pike (720), Winona (724), Corinth (727), Carthage (739), Newton County (742), and Columbia (754).
Lee McDill led Newton County with an 87-84—171. Chase Simmons was next with an 84-96—180.
Completing the Cougars’ scores were Sam Cochran (96-99—195), Beau Engle (97-104—201), and Tyler Grantham (104-99—203).
Amory junior Dane Christensen took medalist honors with a two-day total of 139, 5-under par on the par-72 course.
