Photos Needed
• There is a group of people looking for “old photographs” of Lawrence to hang in the old school house. They want any old photos of Lawrence .... depot..old buildings..school house etc. They will have the photos scanned so the originals can stay with the owner. Then they will be printed and hung in the old schoolhouse. the contact person is Patty Byrne at 601-683-3734.

Club Meetings
• The Newton County Forestry Association, MS Forestry Commission and MSU Extension Service would like to extend this special invitation for you to attend our FIREWISE How To Have A Firewise Home event. This event will be held at the Newton First Baptist Church Family Life Building on April 24, from 9-1. This program is part of a new initiative led in our state by the Mississippi Forestry Commission to achieve fire safe planning and development in the areas of forestry that join our communities where homes are frequently damaged or destroyed by wildland fire. There is no charage for yoru paraticipation and lunch will be provided (pre-registration is required). Registered foresters attending the program will be eligible for 3.0 CFE hours (Cat !). • Lawrence Community Club meets the first Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. Come and enjoy good food, timely information and fellowship. Bring your family.
• Conehatta Community Club invites each of you to join us each month on the third Thursday at 6 p.m. for fellowship, food, fun and always timely information. Bring a friend.
• Liberty Community Club meets the second Monday of each month at 6 p.m. in the club house on Liberty Church Road. There is always good food and excellent fellowship as well as an informative program each month. The public is invited to come join us.

Library News
• On April 22, Earth Day, the Friends of the J. Elliot McMullan Public Library will inaugurate a recycling program to raise money for Newton’s library while also helping to protect our ecosystem. The library will begin to collect rinsed out aluminum cans only. Save your cans and give them to Friends of the Library!

Festivals
• Larry Townsend and staff set Saturday, May 3, for the upcoming 2008 Lakefest to be held at the historic Lake Depot. There will be gospel singing, beauty pageants, crafts and food vendors. Bring you lawn chairs and join us for a fun-filled day.

Scholarship
• The Dustan Todd Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament will be held Saturday, May 10, at 9 a.m at Beaver Creek Golf Course, Newton. It will be an 18-Hole 2 Person Select. Cost is $60 per team, lunch is included. Call Ann Todd at 601-655-8576 for additional information.

American Legion
• Governor Hayley Barbor has proclaimed April as Confederate Memorial Month. The American Legion will honor the occasion by sponsoring the band Nightshift from Neshoba County on April 19 from 8 a.m. until 12.
• The Newton County American Legion Post #89 will hold an AARP Driver Safety Program on May 20 and 21. Mrs. Carlyn Guyse will be our instructor. You may save on your car insurance. There is a small fee for this class which be from 8 a.m. - 12 noon each day for instructional books. Sign up and fee will be paid at class time to the AARP. Family Reunions
• Family reunion for descendants of Andrew Jackson Smith will meet for fun, fellowshio and lots of food. Plan to attend and bring as many of your family members as possible. We will have a pot luch lunch. Bring enough food for your family.
It will be at Mt. Zion Congregational Methodist Church, Hwy. 1, 4 milels N of Decatur on Sat., April 19. The fellowship hall will open at 11 a.m.. Bring new information about family members such as addresses, marriages, births, etc., new pictures or new stories to the reunion to share. • Family reunion for relatives of the late Billy and Racheal Wyatt Lisonbee will be held April 20 at 13181 Pine Forest Newton Rd in Chunky, the home of James (Jim) and Billie Rachle Turnage Caudill, former home of Mattie Lisonbee Turnage. Come and enjoy fellowship and dinner with family and friends.

Benefit
• There will be a benefit fors cancer patient Billy Ray Walters held Saturday, May 3 at the American Legion Hut in Decatur. Between now and the day of the benefit, chicken plates are being sold for $6 to be picked up at 3 p.m. the day of the benefit. To start off the all day event there will be a yard sale from 7 a.m. until. Beginning at 5 p.m. there will be a singing featuring local singers, including gospel and country. At 7 p.m. there will be an auction. At both the yard sale and the auction there will be a large selection of items to choose from. Relay for Life Fund Raisers
• The Newton Regional Hospital Relay for Life team will be holding a car wash April 19 from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Advanced Auto Parts of Newton.
• 3D Bow Shoot and Family Day Relay for Life Benefit on Saturday, April 19 at Bounds Taxidermy and Archery in Conehatta. There will be a sign off of Conehatta Prospect Rd. showing the way. Bow Shoot for hunting bows ($15 entry fee), 1st and 2nd place prize, novelty shoots. Children’s games including David & Goliath, Jonah and the whale, ring toss, rope the bull, fishing booth, dinosaur dig, duck pond, face painting, and a lollipop tree. School News
• The Newton High School Gospel Choir is having a concert on Tuesday, April 22 in the Newton High School Auditorium at 6 p.m. Admission is $3.
• Newton County Academy athletic banquet tickets will be on sale from April 7 - April 18. Tickets are $16. The banquet will be at East Central Community College in the Mabry Cafeteria at 6:30 p.m. Tickets must be purchased in the NCA school office. All athletes that will be attending need to go to the office and make sure that they have their name on the sign up sheet.

Ole Miss Rally
• Newton County Ole Miss Rally to be held Monday, April 28 in the ECCC Cafeteria. 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.- Social Hour and Silent Auction Program. 7 p.m.- Program starts. $10 - Heavy Hors d’oeuvres. Special guest will be Kent Austin, Offensive Coordinator. For tickets contact: Dr. J. G. Alexander, Mr. David Carr, Mrs. Jesse Everett, Mr. Bill Freeman, Mr. Van Lucas or Mr. Mark Herrington.

MS Health News

Banquet
• The Newton County Branch NAACP is having its annual Freedom Fund/Awards/Mother of the Year Banquet on Saturday, April 19, at the East Central Community College cafeteria at 7 pm. This year’s banquet is deisgned to provide information on the “Redesign in Education” presented by Dr. Virginia Young of Newton Municipal School District and “Getting Ready for the Summer” from Mrs. Mittie Heidelbert-Harris, Court Liaison from Catholic Charities of Jackson. A Tribute to Dr. King on the 40th year assassination anniversary will conclude the festivities. Ticket dondations are youth $12 and adult $15. Veterans Programs
• Educational, Benefits and Training Assistance Night on April 22, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Meridian WIN Job Center, 2000 Hwy N in Meridian. There will be educational benefits and general assistance representatives here to answer questions. For more info call (601) 553-9511.
