• Saturday, May 31 deadline is set for practical nursing, emergency medical technician and the healthcare assistant program. May 31 is also the deadline for spring admission to the surgical technology program. Requirements and applications for each program are available on the East Central CommunityCollege website, www.eccc. edu . Photos Needed
• There is a group of people looking for “old photographs” of Lawrence to hang in the old school house. They want any old photos of Lawrence .... depot..old buildings..school house etc. They will have the photos scanned so the originals can stay with the owner. Then they will be printed and hung in the old schoolhouse. the contact person is Patty Byrne at 601-683-3734.
Club Meetings
• Newton County Forestry Association, MS Forestry Commission and MSU Extension Service would like to extend this special invitation for you to attend our FIREWISE How To Have A Firewise Home event. This event will be held at the Newton First Baptist Church Family Life Building on April 24, from 9-1. This program is part of a new initiative led in our state by the Mississippi Forestry Commission to achieve fire safe planning and development in the areas of forestry that join our communities where homes are frequently damaged or destroyed by wildland fire. There is no charage for yoru paraticipation and lunch will be provided (pre-registration is required). Registered foresters attending the program will be eligible for 3.0 CFE hours (Cat !). • Lawrence Community Club meets the first Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. Come and enjoy good food, timely information and fellowship. Bring your family.
• Conehatta Community Club invites each of you to join us each month on the third Thursday at 6 p.m. for fellowship, food, fun and always timely information. Bring a friend.
• Liberty Community Club meets the second Monday of each month at 6 p.m. in the club house on Liberty Church Road. There is always good food and excellent fellowship as well as an informative program each month. The public is invited to come join us.
Volunteers Needed

• Hospice Ministries, a community based, not-for-profit organization, is looking for caring individuals to donate their time and energy to help terminally ill patients and their family in the Metro area. Volunteers are need for administrative work, emotional support and companionship of patients and their families. 4-H News
• If you are age 14-18 and interested in becoming a 4-H teen leader to help teach the Health Rocks curriculum, please call the 4-H office at 601-635-2268. We will teach the curriculum from July through November during various club meetings, retreats and day camps.
Community Events
• Newton County Habitat for Humanity Board of Directors meets the second Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. at East Central Community College in the Executive Conference Room.
Library News
• Wednesday, June 4 at 4 p.m., the Friends of the Library will host nurse and author Ruth Sanders, who has written “Let Not Your Heart Be Troubled” (inspirational nurse’s memoirs) and “My Parent, My Child,” which is intended to encourage lay caregivers. This event is open to the public, and all are encouraged to attend. Books may be available for purchase and signing.
Festivals
• Larry Townsend and staff set Saturday, May 3, for the upcoming 2008 Lakefest to be held at the historic Lake Depot. There will be gospel singing, beauty pageants, crafts and food vendors. Head Start Applications
• Dixon Day will be held Saturday, May 17 at the Neshoba Co. Fairgrounds beginning at 10 a.m. Lunch will be served picnic style. All former students, teachers, families and friends are invited to attend. For more info call (601) 656-3795.
Applications Accepted
• Crossroads Head Start has slots available right now for children who were three years old by September 1. Please bring the following: Child’s birth certificate, Social Security numbers for all family members, income verification (1040 or W-2 for 2007), child’s Medicaid, CHIPS, or private insurance information and immunization compliance form (121 form).
Donations
• An account has been set up at the Citizen’s Bank in Decatur for Billy Ray Walters. Mr. Walters is a cancer patient and does not have insurance. Anyone interested in making a donation can contact Citizen’s Bank at (601) 635-2321.
• An account has been opened for Michael Hammond at Great Southern National Bank, 15122 Hwy 15 S in Decatur. Mike is a cancer patient, is unable to work and does not have insurance coverage. Donations can be made at any Great Southern National Bank branch.
Scholarship
• The Dustan Todd Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament will be held Saturday, May 10, at 9 a.m at Beaver Creek Golf Course, Newton. It will be an 18-Hole 2 Person Select. Cost is $60 per team, lunch is included. Call Ann Todd at 601-655-8576 for additional information.
Family Reunions
• Family reunion for descendants of Millicent Moore and John N. Brooks will be held on Saturday, April 26 at the Collinsville Community Center on Miss. 19 in Collinsville. • The annual Sanderson-Green reunion will be Sunday, May 4, at the city park in Union. Plan to be there from 10 a.m. until. Friends and family are invited to attend. Lunch will be served at noon. American Legion
• The Newton County American Legion Post #89 will hold an AARP Driver Safety Program May 20 and 21. Mrs. Carlyn Guyse will be our instructor. You may save on your car insurance. The class will be from 8 a.m. - 12 noon each day. Sign up and a samll fee will be paid at class time, for instructional books, to the AARP. Benefit
• There will be a benefit for cancer patient Billy Ray Walters held Saturday, May 3 at the American Legion Hut in Decatur. Between now and the day of the benefit, chicken plates are being sold for $6 to be picked up at 3 p.m. the day of the benefit. To start off the all day event there will be a yard sale from 7 a.m. until. Beginning at 5 p.m. there will be a singing featuring local singers, including gospel and country. At 7 p.m. there will be an auction. At both the yard sale and the auction there will be a large selection of items to choose from. Ole Miss Rally
• Newton County Ole Miss Rally to be held Monday, April 28 in the ECCC Cafeteria. 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.- Social Hour and Silent Auction Program. 7 p.m.- Program starts. $10 - Heavy Hors d’oeuvres. Music
• Come and join us Saturday, May 3rd at Lou’s Pavilion. To start us off good will be the “Boler Family” singing from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. After that will be our featured guest “Heavenly Journey”. There will also be country and bluegrass music. Meridian Little Theater

Workshop
• A floral arranging workshop will be held on May 10 at 10 a.m. at Designz by Nikki in downtown Newton. Come and learn how to make simple floral arrangements using flowers form your yard.
Class Reunion
• Beulah Hubbard Class of 1988 will be holding its twenty year reunion on May 17 at 6 p.m. at The Crescent City Grill in Meridian.
