Ball Registration
• Newton County Fall Ball registration will be held at Decatur ball fields at 9 a.m. on Saturday September 20. Wood bats only will be used. There will be a $20 registration fee. If playing 9 and 10 year old or 11 and 12 year old baseball in the spring of 09, you are eligible to play. School News
• The Decatur High School classes of 1974, 1975, and 1976 are planning a reunion for October, 2009. If you are a member of any of these 3 classes or have contact with any members of these classes, please contact: Arlies Savell King, class of 1975, at 213 Woodgreen Cove, Flowood, MS 29232, email to arliesk@yahoo.com, or phone 601-914-2921. Please indicate the year of graduation,  email, phone and/or postal address.
• Future MSU students: Fall previews scheduled this month: Mississippi State is announcing Sept. 22 and Oct. 13 as 208 Fall preview Days for prospective students. Check-in begins at 9 a.m. and concludes by 4 p.m. both days. There is no registration deadline. In addition to tours of the university, the agenda includes: – An organizational fair that provides information about the many student groups and activities; – A general assembly, at which details on admission and related matters will be discussed; – A follow-up question-and-answer session with a representative of the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs; – Individualized meetings wit departmental faculty members regarding potential academic members; and – Tours of campus housing facilities. Lunch and an ice cream break also will be provided by the sponsoring office of Admissions and Scholarships.

Club Meetings
• The Newton County Chapter of the Miss. Retired Educational Personnel will meet on Sept. 18 at 1:30 p.m. in the Gold Room of the ECCC Cafeteria. The organization is open to anyone retired from the Public Employees Retirement System and who worked in any capacity in the field of education. The speaker for the Sept. 18 meeting will be Tanya Boler, English Instructor at ECCC. Her topic will be “How Technology Has Changed the Teaching Profession” and will cover a number of technological advances and how they have changed the teaching profession. All retired teachers will be interested in Tanya’s presentation.
• Newton County Cattlemens Association will meet on Sept. 25, at 6:30 p.m. at the Coastal Plains Experiment Station. If you would like to attend this meeting please call Leanne McGee at 601-635-2267.
• Evergreen Lodge #57 F&AM meets the third Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m. All qualified masons are welcome.

Library News
• The library has received donations of old books and a set of encyclopedias. These books are in good condition and are available to anyone who would like to come and get them.
• Storytime for Preschoolers began at the J. Elliot McMullan Public Library. This program will take place on a Wednesday of each month, September through April from 10 to 10:30 a.m. All children are welcome.

Blood Drives
• Did you know that every three seconds someone needs a blood transfusion? Donate at one of the following drives in your community. Newton County Academy on Sept. 17 from 3 p.m.-6:30 p.m.; Decatur United Methodist Church from 12 noon-4 p.m. on Sept. 21; Newton County Elementary School from 2 p.m.-7 p.m. on Sept. 25; BoRo Family Restaurant from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Sept. 26; Movie Gallery from 3 p.m.-6 p.m. on Sept. 26; Hickory Baptist Church from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Sept. 28.

Concert
• Lou’s Pavilion will have Heavenly Journey, Crossroads and Hayes Crossing on Saturday, Sept. 20, from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. We would like to encourage all of you that like to entertain by singing and/or play

Family Reunions
• The McElhenney family reunion will be held on Sept. 20 at the Baptist Meeting Hall on Hwy 15 between Decatur and Newton. Follow the Baptist Camp sign. Reunion starts at 10 a.m. Lunch will be at 12 noon. Bring a covered dish. For more info call JoAnn McElhenney Estes at 601-634-2034.
• The Loper Family Reunion, which was postponed due to unfortunate circumstances, has now been rescheduled for September 21 at Lou’s Pavilion. We want every one to come and see our newest additions, reunite with family near and far. For more info call us at 601-692-8840.
• The Mayes family reunion will be held Sept. 28 at the Union City Park. We encourage all relatives and friends to bring food and enjoy. A letter was sent to give details of this event but if you have not read this you may call Kay @601-527-4143. Lunch will be at 1 p.m. Please come early and stay late!
• The Garvin Reunion will be held Sept. 21 at the Christian Camp between Newton and Decatur. It will begin at 10 a.m. Come and bring a dish and enjoy the day.
• The 101st Annual Doolittle Reunion will be held Sept. 20 at the Newton United Methodist Church, located at 600 Decatur St. in Newton beginning at 10 a.m. Everyone is invited to bring a picnic lunch and join us.

Diabetic/Arthritis
• Free diabetic/arthritis kits with doctors perscription. Arthritis kits include knee, back/ shoulder braces. Diabetic kits include Glucose monitor/meters, heating pads and pumps. Call 601-616-8893.

Dinner/Movie
• The Scarecrow committee of Sebastopol will be hosting a dinner and movie, Nim’s Island, in Bishop Park Saturday, Sept. 20. Hamburger and hotdog plates will be served at 6 p.m. for $5 and include a drink. Admission is free. The movie will begin at 7 p.m. /dark. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets. No outside food or drinks al-lowed. Proceeds benefit the 2nd annual Sebastopolooza Fall Festival and 5K Run/Walk, to be held October 25. For info call Sebastopol Town Hall at 601. 625.7200.

Theatre
•The Newton Theatre Co. presents “My Fair Lady” at the Roxy theatre in Newton on Thursday Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. with the gala at Newton Co. Bank following. Tickets are $15 for this performance and the gala. Sat. Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. and Sun. 28 at 2 p.m. Tickets for these performances are $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12. • Meridian Little Theatre open the season Oct. 2-8 with “Annie”. Fund Raisers

ACT Testing
• The next ACT test will be administered on Oct. 25. Students who wish to take the college admission and placement exam must register by Sept. 19. The cost is $31 for the traditional ACT and $46 for the ACT plus writing. Students can register online and get more info at www.actstudent.org.
• The NCMS Cheerleaders will sell the Koch chicken nuggets. It is a 10 lb. box of breaded chicken tenders for $20. If you would like to purchase some contact Newton County Middle School at 601-635-4261. Orders need to be picked up at the NCHS Gym from 3:30 - 5 p.m. on Oct. 8.

Golf Tournaments

• Becky Ceartas from the Rural Advancement Foundation International-USA will be talking with contract poultry growers about the new protections enacted into law with the 2008 Farm Bill as well as existing protections under the Packers and Stockyards Act.
