Treat Street
• Decatur Business Association is inviting the public to the Second Annual Treat Street Fall Bash in Downtown Decatur on October 30 and 31. If you would like to come and be a part of Treat Street or if you have questions, call Brittni Ray Harris at 601-527-0197.

Fall Ball Registration
• Newton County Fall Ball registration will be at Decatur ball fields at 9 a.m. on Saturday Sept. 27. Wood bats only will be used. There will be a $20 registration fee. If playing 9 and 10 year old or 11 and 12 year old baseball in the spring of 09, you are eligible to play. School News
• The 2nd grade class of NCA will be selling lunch plates every Thurs. Sept. 25 - Oct. 23. The plates can be picked up at the NCA parking lot and will also be delivered to business in Newton, Decatur, and Union. A menu for each week will be sent out in The Newton Record as well as by email. Plates will include: meat, two sides, bread, and dessert for $5.00 This fundraiser is in support of NCA and our annual fall festival. • The next ACT test will be administered on Oct. 25. The cost is $31 for the traditional ACT and $46 for the ACT plus writing. Students can register online and get more info at www.actstudent.org.
• NCMS Cheerleaders will once again sell the Koch chicken nuggets. It is a 10 lb. box of breaded chicken tenders for $20. You can’t buy them that cheap in the store. We have had rave reviews from those who bought in the spring. They come in a bag and you can pull out how ever many you need, cook them for about 25 minutes in the oven (or deep fry for less time) and they are really good. If you would like to purchase some contact Newton County Middle School at 601-635-4261. Orders need to be picked up at the NCHS Gym from 3:30 - 5 p.m. on Oct. 8.
• The Decatur High School classes of 1974, 1975, and 1976 are planning a reunion for October, 2009. Library News
• The library has received donations of old books and a set of encyclopedias. These books are in good condition and are available to anyone who would like to come and get them.

Blood Drives
• Did you know that every three seconds someone needs a blood transfusion? Donate at one of the following drives in your community. Sept. 25; BoRo Family Restaurant from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Sept. 26; Movie Gallery from 3 p.m.-6 p.m. on Sept. 26; Hickory Baptist Church from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Sept. 28.

Family Reunions
• The Mayes family reunion will be held Sept. 28 at the Union City Park. We encourage all relatives and friends to bring food and enjoy. A letter was sent to give details of this event but if you have not read this you may call Kay at 601-527-4143. Lunch will be at 1 p.m. Please come early and stay late!
• The Annual Stamper Reunion will be held at the American Legion Post 89 on Oct. 11 beginning at 10 a.m. Bring your favorite vittles. For more info call Rhubarb Stamper 601-683-3266.

Diabetic/Arthritis
• Free diabetic/arthritis kits with doctors perscription. Arthritis kits include knee, back/ shoulder braces. Diabetic kits include Glucose monitor/meters, heating pads and pumps. Call 601-616-8893.

Theatres
•Newton Theatre Co. presents “My Fair Lady” at the Roxy theatre in Newton on Thursday Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. with the gala at Newton Co. Bank following. Tickets are $15 for this performance and the gala. Sat. Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. and Sun. 28 at 2 p.m. Tickets for these performances are $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12. For info call 601-479-6553. Tickets are available at Newton Co. • Meridian Little Theatre open the season Oct. 2-8 with “Annie”. Festival
• The 21st Annual Mississippi Pecan Festival will be held on Sept. 26-28 in Richton. The Festival will crown the 2008 MS Pecan Festival King and Queen and include a Bake-off and Charity Tasting on Sept. 28. For more info call 601-964-8201 or email at www.mspecanfest ival.com.

Women in Leadership

Golf Tournaments

Poultry Growers
• Becky Ceartas from the Rural Advancement Foundation International-USA will be talking with contract poultry growers about the new protections enacted into law with the 2008 Farm Bill as well as existing protections under the Packers and Stockyards Act. • The Suqualena Community Development Club is taking booth applications for specialty vendors for Suqualena Settlers Day on September 27. Home Buyer’s Workshop
• Friendship Baptist Church at Hwy. 80 in Hickory will hold a Home Buyer’s Workshop on Oct. 9 at 6:30 p.m. featuring Barbara Beatty of U.S. Dept. of Agriculture Rural Development, Jennifer Buford of East Central Planning and Development District and Jackie Thigpen of BancorSouth Bank. Dance
• The Historic American Legion Post will sponsor a Fall Dance on Oct. 4 from 8 p.m.-12 midnight. Night Shift will be the group.

Political Events
• An event honoring Gregg Harper, Republican candidate for Congress for the Third Congressional District, has been planned for Thursday, Sept. 25, at 6 p.m. in Mabry Memorial Cafeteria at East Central Community College. Photos Needed
• A group of people looking for “old photographs” of Lawrence to hang in the old school house. They want any old photos of Lawrence .... depot ... old buildings ... school house etc. They will have the photos scanned so the originals can stay with the owner. Then they will be printed and hung in the old schoolhouse. The contact person is Patty Byrne at 601-683-3734.  

Clubs and Meetings
• Lawrence Community Club meets the first Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. Come and enjoy good food, timely information and fellowship. Bring your family.
• Conehatta Community Club invites each of you to join us each month on the third Thursday at 6 p.m. for fellowship, food, fun and always timely information. Bring a friend.
• Liberty Community Club meets the second Monday of each month at 6 p.m. in the club house on Liberty Church Road. There is always good food and excellent fellowship as well as an informative program each month. The public is invited to come join us.
• Newton County Habitat for Humanity Board of Directors meets the second Tuesday of each month at 5 p.m. at the United Methodist Church.
• Newton County Cattlemens Association will meet on Sept. 25, at 6:30 p.m. at the Coastal Plains Experiment Station. If you would like to attend this meeting please call Leanne McGee at 601-635-2267.
• Evergreen Lodge #57 F&AM meets the third Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m. All qualified masons are welcome.
