NEWTON Treat Street

Military Police

• The 2nd Security Bn (Military Police) is looking for volunteers that want to be trained as MP’s in the Mississippi State Guard. Mississippi State Guard is a volunteer military force that is activated by the Govenor in a time of crisis in the State of Mississippi. For information contact Maj. School News

• The annual Lawrence School Reunion will be held Oct. 4. Bring your favorite food and your family, and enjoy meeting former classmates.

• Decatur High School classes of 1974, 1975, and 1976 are planning a reunion for October, 2009. • The next ACT test will be administered on Oct. 25. Students who wish to take the college admission and placement exam must register by Sept. 19. The cost is $31 for the traditional ACT and $46 for the ACT plus writing. Students can register online and get more info at www.actstudent.org.

• The NCMS Cheerleaders are selling Koch chicken nuggets. It is a 10 lb. box of breaded chicken tenders for $20. If you would like to purchase some contact Newton County Middle School at 601-635-4261. Orders need to be picked up at the NCHS Gym from 3:30 - 5 p.m. on Oct. 8.



Photos Needed

• A group of people looking for “old photographs” of Lawrence to hang in the old school house. They want any old photos of Lawrence .... depot ... old buildings ... school house etc. They will have the photos scanned so the originals can stay with the owner. Then they will be printed and hung in the old schoolhouse. The contact person is Patty Byrne at 601-683-3734.  



Library News

• The library has received donations of old books and a set of encyclopedias. These books are in good condition and are available to anyone who would like to come and get them.

• Storytime for Preschoolers began at the J. Elliot McMullan Public Library. This program will be Wednesday of each month through April from 10 to 10:30 a.m. All children are welcome.



Family Reunions

• The Annual Stamper Reunion will be held at the American Legion Post 89 on Oct. 11 beginning at 10 a.m. Bring your favorite vittles. For more info call Rhubarb Stamper 601-683-3266.



Diabetic/Arthritis

• Free diabetic/arthritis kits with doctors prescription. Arthritis kits include knee, back/ shoulder braces. Diabetic kits include Glucose monitor/meters, heating pads and pumps. Call 601-616-8893.



Theatre

• Meridian Little Theatre open the season Oct. 2-8 with “Annie”. Women Leadership

Fund Raisers

• The 2nd grade class of NCA will be selling lunch plates every Thurs. through Oct. 23. The plates can be picked up at the NCA parking lot and will also be delivered to business in Newton, Decatur, and Union. Plates will include: meat, two sides, bread, and dessert for $5. This fund raiser is in support of NCA and our annual fall festival. • The Historic American Legion Post will sponsor a Fall Dance on Oct. 4 from 8 p.m.-12 midnight. Night Shift will be the group.

Pageants

• Lawrence Community Club meets the first Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. Come and enjoy good food, timely information and fellowship. Bring your family.

• Conehatta Community Club invites each of you to join us each month on the third Thursday at 6 p.m. for fellowship, food, fun and always timely information. Bring a friend.

• Liberty Community Club meets the second Monday of each month at 6 p.m. in the club house on Liberty Church Road. There is always good food and excellent fellowship as well as an informative program each month. The public is invited to come join us.

• Newton County Habitat for Humanity Board of Directors meets the second Tuesday of each month at 5 p.m. at the United Methodist Church.

• Evergreen Lodge #57 F&AM meets the third Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m. All qualified masons are welcome.
