Fall Festivals
Decatur Business Association is inviting the public to the Second Annual Treat Street Fall Bash in Downtown Decatur on Oct. 30 and 31. If you would like to come and be a part of Treat Street or if you have any questions, call Brittni Ray Harris at 601-527-0197.
Lake High School will have a fall carnival on Oct. 25 from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. Admission $2. Cake walk, fun jump, face painting, basketball throw, toy walk and more.
Newton County Academy will host their 37th annual Fall Festival on October 25 from 3-7 p.m. At 7:30 p.m. we will have the presentation of the Royal Court and the announcement of the 2008 King and Queen. Everyone is invited to attend. For more info. call 601-635-2756.
Military Police
The 2nd Security Bn (Military Police) is looking for volunteers that want to be trained as MP’s in the Mississippi State Guard. Mississippi State Guard is a volunteer military force that is activated by the Governor in a time of crisis in the State of Mississippi. For information contact Maj. School News
The Decatur High School classes of 1974, 1975, and 1976 are planning a reunion for Oct. ‘09. Newton High School PTO Meeting on Thursday 16 at 6 p.m. at the High School Library.
Newton High School will hold Homecoming on Oct. 17 with a parade through downtown Newton at 4 p.m., Carnival at Morgan Field from 5:30-6:30 p.m., the Parade of Maids at Morgan Field at 6:30 p.m., and the football game between Newton and Kemper County. The crowning ceremony will be at halftime.
Newton High School will have an Open House on Oct. 16 from 4-6:30 p.m. Report cards will be distributed.
Photos Needed
A group of people looking for “old photographs” of Lawrence to hang in the old school house. They want any old photos of Lawrence: depot, old buildings, school house etc. They will have the photos scanned so the originals can stay with the owner. Lawrence Community Club meets the first Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. Come and enjoy good food, timely information and fellowship. Bring your family.

Library News
The library has received donations of old books and a set of encyclopedias. These books are in good condition and are available to anyone who would like to come and get them.
Storytime for Preschoolers began at the J. Elliot McMullan Public Library. This program will be on Wednesday of each month through April from 10 to 10:30 a.m. All children are welcome.
Family Reunions
The Annual Stamper Reunion will be held at the American Legion Post 89 on Oct. 11 beginning at 10 a.m. Bring your favorite vittles. For more info call Rhubarb Stamper 601-683-3266.
The John Henry Reynolds Family Reunion will be at Pleasant Grove UM Church on Oct. 19, 11 a.m. until. Covered dish; plates forks, cups and napkins provided.

Fund Raisers
The 2nd grade class of NCA will be selling lunch plates every Thurs. through Oct. 23. The plates can be picked up at the NCA parking lot and will also be delivered to business in Newton, Decatur, and Union. A menu for each week will be sent out in The Newton Record as well as by email. Plates will include: meat, two sides, bread, and dessert for $5. This fundraiser is in support of NCA and our annual fall festival. ACT Testing
The next ACT test will be administered on Oct. 25. Students who wish to take the college admission and placement exam must be pre-register. The cost is $31 for the traditional ACT and $46 for the ACT plus writing. Students can register online and get more info at www.actstudent.org.
