NEWTON Christmas Bazar

•The Annual Auxiliary Christmas Bazaar and Bake Sale will be held on Dec. 5. The Bazaar will be held at Newton Regional Hospital in the Conference room from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.



Military Police

• The 2nd Security Bn (Military Police) is looking for volunteers that want to be trained as MP’s in the Mississippi State Guard. Mississippi State Guard is a volunteer military force that is activated by the Governor in a time of crisis in the State of Mississippi. For information contact Maj. Clubs/Meetings

• Lawrence Community Club meets the first Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. Come and enjoy good food, timely information and fellowship. Bring your family.

• Conehatta Community Club invites you to join us each month on the third Thursday at 6 p.m. for fellowship, food, fun and always timely information. Bring a friend.

• Liberty Community Club meets the second Monday of each month at 6 p.m. in the club house on Liberty Church Road. There is always good food and excellent fellowship as well as an informative program each month. The public is invited to come join us.

• Newton County Habitat for Humanity Board of Directors meets the second Tuesday of each month at 5 p.m. at the United Methodist Church.

• Evergreen Lodge #57 F&AM meets the third Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m. All qualified masons are welcome.

• The Newton County Forestry Association will meet on Nov. 13 at 6 p.m. at the Coastal Plains Experiment Station. Anyone interested in joining is invited to attend. To make your reservation please call Leanne McGee at the MSU Extension Service 601-635-2267.

Library News

• Storytime for Preschoolers began at the J. Elliot McMullan Public Library. This program will be on Wednesday of each month through April from 10 to 10:30 a.m. All children are welcome.



Diabetic/Arthritis

• Free diabetic/arthritis kits with doctors prescription. Arthritis kits include knee, back/ shoulder braces. Diabetic kits include Glucose monitor/meters, heating pads and pumps. Call 601-616-8893.



Basketball

• Newton Parks and Recreation Youth Basketball Registration for boys and girls ages 6-12 interested in playing league basketball will be at city hall in Newton. Registration fee is $20 pus cost of jersey. Deadline is Nov. 14. Must be 6 yrs. old before Feb. 1 ‘09. Call 601-683-2870.



School News

• Newton Municipal School Band Boosters will hold a steak dinner on Nov. 7 from 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Pick up at Cash Money across the street from La-Z-Boy for $8. Dinner includes 8 oz. steak, baked potato, vegetable, roll, dessert and drink.

• The Newton County High School FBLA Club will be selling poinsettias through November 17. They are $11 each; proceeds help fund the cost of attending State/National conventions. For ordering information, contact Margaret Booth at 601-635-4138 or Brenda Pierce at 601-635-2718 between 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. They are scheduled to be delivered on Dec. 2.

• Newton County Academy Booster Club will be having a meat fund raiser again this year. The meat will be cooked by Joe Williams from the Piggly Wiggly of Collinsville. Selection is Boston Butt - $20, Turkey Breast - $20, & Slab of Ribs - $18. Anyone interested in purchasing call Lisa at 601-513-7070. They will be picked up on Nov. 20 at 3 p.m. and delivered to you.



Banquets

• Outdoors Without Limits, a non-profit disability outreach program, is holding its first annual fund raising dinner and banquet at the Newton Country Club on Nov. 8. Doors open at 6 p.m., dinner at 7 p.m. with auction following. Ticket prices are $35 for singles, $50 for couples, $250 for sponsors. Call 601-575-4019 or 662-803-1134.



Dances

• American Legion Post 89 will sponsor a Pre-Thanksgiving dance on Nov. 15 at 8 p.m. The featured band will be Ray Weir and the GoodTimes from Potterchitto Creek.



Theatre

Lights of Love

• The Volunteers of Laird Hospital will be sponsoring the annual “Lights of Love” beginning now through Dec. A light will be placed on the Christmas tree “In Honor of” or “In Memory of” any person you desire to honor. The Christmas tree will be located in the lobby of the hospital. Donations are $5 per name and will be used for scholarships for three local students who are entering the health care field. All names must be turned in by Dec. 17.
