Christmas Bazar
The Annual Auxiliary Christmas Bazaar and Bake Sale will be held on Dec. 5. The Bazaar will be held at Newton Regional Hospital in the Conference room from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Military Police
The 2nd Security Bn (Military Police) is looking for volunteers that want to be trained as MP’s in the Mississippi State Guard. Mississippi State Guard is a volunteer military force that is activated by the Governor in a time of crisis in the State of Mississippi. For information contact Maj. Clubs/Meetings
Lawrence Community Club meets the first Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. Come and enjoy good food, timely information and fellowship. Bring your family.
Conehatta Community Club invites you to join us each month on the third Thursday at 6 p.m. for fellowship, food, fun and always timely information. Bring a friend.
Liberty Community Club meets the second Monday of each month at 6 p.m. in the club house on Liberty Church Road. There is always good food and excellent fellowship as well as an informative program each month. The public is invited to come join us.
Newton County Habitat for Humanity Board of Directors meets the second Tuesday of each month at 5 p.m. at the United Methodist Church.
Evergreen Lodge #57 F&AM meets the third Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m. All qualified masons are welcome.

Logger Education
The Southwest Mississippi Forestry Assoication and Mississippi State University Extension Service are hosting a Logger Education Program on Saturday, November 22 at Southwest Mississippi Community College in Summit. Brochures were mailed from MSU, but we are getting calls from individuals that have not received the information as yet. Logging professionals are required to have 12 continuing education hours every other year. The deadline for getting this year's hours is December 1. Library News
Friends of the Library will host their annual Christmas party at the J. Elliot McMullan Public Library on Dec. 10 at 4 p.m. Guests include Melanie D. Calvert, author of A Southern Moon Rising, and W.R. Benton, author of Red Runs the Plains. Everyone is invited and refreshments will be served. Copies of the author’s books may be available for purchase.

The Newton County High School FBLA Club will be selling poinsettias through of Nov. 17. They are $11 each; proceeds help fund the cost of attending State/National conventions. NCA Booster Club is having a meat fund raiser again this year. The meat will be cooked by Joe Williams from the Piggly Wiggly of Collinsville. Newton County Elementary’s Uniform Swap will be Nov. 17, 3:15-6 p.m. in the Elementary gym. Drop-off dates for slightly used/new clothing will be on Nov. 11-13, whether in the car rider line, through the office, or by students. Dances
American Legion Post 89 will sponsor a Pre-Thanksgiving dance on Nov. 15 at 8 p.m. The featured band will be Ray Weir and the GoodTimes from Potterchitto Creek.
Wheelchairs
The Senior Wheels U.S.A. Program makes available Power Wheelchairs to Senior citizens and the permanently disabled at no cost, if they qualify. The Power wheelchairs are provided to those who can no longer walk nor self-propel a manual wheelchair, who meet the additional guidelines of the program. No deposit is required. Lights of Love
The Volunteers of Laird Hospital sponsor the annual “Lights of Love” beginning now through Dec. A light will be placed on the Christmas tree “In Honor of” or “In Memory of” any person you desire to honor. The Christmas tree will be in the lobby of the hospital. Donations are $5 per name and will be used for scholarships for three local students entering the health care field. Newton High School Gospel Choir will hold a concert Nov. 20 at 6 p.m. at the Newton High School Auditorium. Guest choir will be ECCC Gospel Choir and speaker will be Rev. Pervis Mann of Carthage. Admission is $3.
