Union girls pick up another win

— The Union Lady Jackets went 1-1 on the hardwood last week, beating West Lauderdale and losing to Kemper County.
The Lady Jackets saw their record go to 5-3.
The Union boys lost both of their games to drop to 2-4.
This week, Union went to Neshoba Central on Tuesday and will go to Scott Central on Friday. Union hosts Newton on Dec. 17 and plays at Lake on Dec. 21.

Union girls 37, West Lauderdale 23
The Lady Jackets improved to 5-2 with the Dec. 4 victory at Collinsville.
Union trailed 10-8 after one quarter, but outscored the Lady Knights 18-3 over the middle periods to take a 26-13 lead into the fourth quarter.
A 12-3 advantage in the second quarter gave the Lady Jackets a 20-13 halftime lead. Union then blanked West 6-0 in the third quarter.
Breanna Viverette led Union with 21 points. Quill Parker added seven.
“We came out and were a little sluggish at the beginning, but we ended up doing well toward the end,” said Union first-year head coach Jamie Glasgow. “Both teams struggled offensively.
“They didn’t score any points in the third quarter and I was proud of that.”
West, 1-8, got six points from Nandi Franklin and five from Roslyn Warren.

West Lauderdale 80, Union boys 52
West outscored Union 48-21 in the second half to break open the Dec. 4 contest at Collinsville.
The Knights led 21-17 after one quarter, but Union closed to within 32-31 by halftime. A 23-8 advantage in the third quarter upped West’s lead to 55-39.
Union, 2-3, got 16 points from Michael Holley, 12 each from Shunadrick Landfair and Courtney Campbell, six from Octavius Wallace, and four from Sylvester Jackson.
West got 21 points from Matthew Betts, 20 from Nathan Herrington, 15 from Tarrance Brown, eight from Justin Ford, and seven from Jontrae Conley.

Kemper County 54, Union girls 34
The Lady Wildcats grabbed a 15-5 first quarter lead and extended it to 28-12 going into halftime of Friday’s Division 5-2A game at Union. Kemper led 44-24 through three periods.
“We played a very talented team. I knew that we had to come out playing our best and we didn’t. We came out kinda shell-shocked. The first five minutes of the game dictated the whole ballgame,” Union coach Jamie Glasgow said. “We were down 16 going into the half and they beat us 20. When we adjust and realize what’s going on, we can attack it. We’ve just got to find some people that can put it in the basket. We broke the press several times and couldn’t take advantage of it.”
Union, 5-3, got nine points from Breanna Viverette, six from Robin Moore, and four each from Kayla Bates and Keena Louis.
Kemper County, 4-4, got 15 points from Chadisty Hickman, 13 from Brittany Bohannon, and nine from Alondra Jefferson.

Kemper County 72, Union boys 49
The ‘Jackets spotted Kemper a 47-33 halftime lead in Friday’s Division 5-2A game at Union.
After Union closed to within 45-39, Kemper pulled out to a 60-38 advantage by the end of the third quarter.
Union, 2-4, got 17 points from Michael Holley, nine from Courtney Campbell, eight from Octavius Wallace, seven from Shunadrick Landfair, and four from Sylvester Jackson.
The Wildcats, 4-4, got 15 points each from Lacoltan Bester and Javon Payne, 12 from Steven Fuller, nine from Tomaun Rencher, and eight from Cadarrell Wilkins.
