Union basketball teams fall to Neshoba Central and Scott Central

Both the Union Yellowjackets and Lady Jackets lost both of their basketball games last week to Neshoba Central and Scott Central.
The Lady Jackets entered this week with a 5-5 record, while the Yellowjackets were 2-6.
After hosting Newton on Monday, Union wraps up first semester action on Friday at Lake.
The ‘Jackets and Lady Jackets will be off until Jan. 3 when they take part in the Enterprise Round Robin along with Enterprise, Clarkdale, and West Lauderdale.

Neshoba 61, Union girls 27
The Lady Jackets turned in a cold-shooting performance in the Dec. 11 loss at Philadelphia.
Neshoba jumped out to an 18-8 first quarter lead and carried a 30-10 advantage into halftime. The Lady Rockets extended their lead to 46-16 over the third period.
Union, 5-4, got 11 points from Breanna Viverette, four each from Quill Parker, Yancey Tillman, and Robin Moore, and three from Cayla Yates.

Neshoba 58, Union boys 46
Homestanding Neshoba Central outscored Union 30-18 over the middle quarters to win the Dec. 11 contest.
The Rockets led 12-10 after one period, then upped their lead to 27-17 going into halftime. Neshoba led 42-28 to start the fourth quarter.
Courtney Campbell made 6-of-7 free throws in leading Union, 2-5, with 13 points. Michael Holley and Shunadrick Landfair both scored 10, Octavius Wallace added seven, Kenneth Harris had four, and Sylvester Jackson had three.
Union made only 17-of-29 free throw tries.

Scott 45, Union girls 32
Kelcia Bufkin scored 29 points to lead Chad Harrison’s Lady Rebels to the 13-point Division 5-2A win Friday at Scott Central. She scored 19 of the Lady Rebels’ 24 second-half points. Scott led 15-4 after one quarter and took a 21-12 lead into halftime. The Lady Rebels extended their lead to 35-21 over the third quarter.
Union, 5-5, got 15 points from Breanna Viverette, five from Quill Parker, and four each from Kayla Bates and Cayla Yates.
Scott 76, Union boys 36
Kenneth Barlow tossed in 20 points as the Rebels routed Union Friday at Scott Central in 5-2A action.
The Rebels led 19-10 after one quarter, 37-22 at halftime, and 59-26 to start the final period.
Union, 2-6, got eight points each from Shunadrick Landfair, Kenneth Harris, and Sylvester Jackson. Michael Holley scored six and Corey McClelland added three.
